    [PROJECT] Ruff Techdemo

Postby blindfold on Wed Apr 12, 2006 4:54 pm

"Ruff Techdemo" is based on "Ruff'n'Tumble" game for Commodore Amiga. The game
itself is very playable platform shooter, it features very good gameplay
and quite nice graphics. More info about game here: http://hol.abime.net/1292

"Ruff Techdemo" project is a try to make "complete" base code for such platform
game. The aim is to show beginers how to make platform game for GBA in easy way.
The main code uses HAM, HEL, Katie, gfx2gba and VisualHAM as editor.

"Ruff Techdemo" is not a remake or clone of the original game. If you want
to play original, get an emulator or modify source code (when available).

The project is based on "Ruff'n'Tumble" game for Commodore Amiga published by
Renegade - Worldwide, developed by Wunderkind (Jason Perkins, Robin Levy,
Jason Page, Jason Perkins, Robin Levy). I'm not affiliated with oryginal
    authors in any way.

    - enemies (ai, anim system, manager),
    - scripting for enemies (based on players scripting),
    - sprite multitiling (basic or intelligent),
    - publish clean source,

Hey - VERY COOL! This is a nice demo!

I am looking forward to the next version and to seeing the source code. I am working on a platform game now using the same tools and building it the way I think it should be done - but learning lots of hard lessons as I go!

    Keep up the good work!

Edit: The camera movement is really good!

I would LOVE to see the completed source! Sounds interesting!
Anyway, do you have any jRPG sources?

BTW - I'm from Poland, too!

Wow! That's going to be really awesome. If I had the source I think I'd be all set!

    Please keep us posted!

Thanks for your feedback. Don't forget this one has been possible because all of you on this forum.

There are too many errors and dirty code to give out the source now - this would be too ambarassing - this one was coded during few evenings when I had a little time after whole day hard work.

Hi. I have tried to implement some more proper physics engine. In other words imagine wheel rolling from the hills, proper gravity, friction, wind, springs (well it's going too far), etc.

I have some problems with defiance (air friction?) if somebody knows how to do this, read on:

What I'm doing is sinmply adding force to my hero depending on run direction, than calculating all other force influences (gravity, sliding etc) by adding this forces too. Now I have to make some defiance to limit my hero speed, but I don't know how to do this. Is defiance linear, or should I multiply my force by some defiance param? I know it is a constant value, but I think it increases along velocity so my hero will stop.

So don't worry, I'm still going on.

hey Blindfold, long time no see,

i suggest you heavily the following OReilly book on these topics. "Physics for Game Programmers" - its a pretty easy read and covers issues suchas yours. You can also buy / get the ebook from Safari or other sites.

Wow, blindfold, that looks really impressive. I decided to check out your website to see your other projects, and maybe learn a few things by looking at your source code. I think it'd be an extraordinarily great help if sometime you could finish up the source code to Ruff and post it online for download for us noobs 8)
